The WPTDeepStack Berlin Main Event is in the books with the German player Dustin Mangold taking down the coveted title for €134,809 in prize money after beating a record field of 561 players.
The 23-year-old Mangold beat Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni in heads-up to score the biggest win of his career in a record-breaking WPTDeepStacks event ever held outside of the North America. Mangold came into the final table 8th in chips but played very smartly to make his way to the top place.
The runner-up player Kunal Patni from Mumbai who holds over $335,380 in the live tournament earnings has played several WPT events till date. Last year in June, he finished 15th at the WPT500 Main Event in Las Vegas and collected $ 12,700 for his remarkable performance in the event.
Patni enjoyed a good run almost all through the final table of the WPTDeepStack Berlin Main Event. After eliminating the well-known Adem Gul in the 3rd place, he moved into heads-up battle with Mangold as the chip lead. Although Patni held the lead, but in two crucial hands he lost lots of his chips to Mangold who had stronger holdings and hence got paid off by Patni on two streets.
On the last hand of the marquee event, Mangold opened to 420,000 with 9s-6d and Kunal Patni made the call with Kh-7s to see the flop 6s-Kd-2d where Patni check-called a continuation bet of 405,000 from Mangold. The turn delivered 5c where Patni checked again and Mangold bet 835,000. Patni again called to see the river which was 6h where Patni checked for the third time and Mangold moved all-in. After thinking for a while, Patni decided to place stack of his chips in the middle.
Mangold turned over his 9-6 for the rivered trips, while Patni showed a king. Mangold became the champion to claim the top prize of €134,809.00, while Patni ended as runner-up taking home €96,140 for his efforts. Although Patni could not clinch the title this time, but he definitely made headlines by being the only Adda52 Team Pro finishing runner-up in a WPT Main Event.
