Joseph LaPinta defeated his namesake and roommate Joseph Wertz to win the 2013-14 WSOP Circuit Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Main Event for $182,070. He won the coveted Circuit Ring and a seat in the WSOP National Championship. The Main Event which spread across 3 days saw LaPinta enter the final table eighth in chip strength but make a quick elevation to the top.
Day 3 had started with the nine handed final table and Kevin Kernan was the first to go. His Ace-King was cracked by John Jones’ Ace-Queen. Jones was also responsible for eliminating WSOP Circuit Hammond Main Event Winner James Dorrance in eighth place. Next to hit the rail in seventh spot was Melad Merji followed by the quick exit of Jeremy Wien. It was at this stage that LaPinta secured a huge double up through Wien to command respect on the table.
Chip leader at the start of the FT, Fabrizio Sarra went out next followed by Keith Donovan at the hands of LaPinta. Three way action now ensued between Jones, Wertz and LaPinta. Jones went down to LaPinta when the former’s were beaten by of the latter who rivered a diamond Nut Flush.
In heads up play, the big stack LaPinta called the all-in of Wertz and turned over while Wertz held . The board read to eliminate Wertz and LaPinta a well-deserved win.
