Jonas Wexler has won the 2019 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Harrah’s Cherokee $1,700 buy-in NLH Main Event. The tournament drew a total of 1,087 entries, easily crushing the $1 million guarantee to create a final prize pool of $1,646,805. In the end, the lion’s share went to Wexler, who won the event for $300,536 in top prize and his second WSOPC gold ring as this year’s champion.
This win was Wexler’s biggest live cash as he topped his previous score of $189,555, which he had won at a WSOP final table in 2009. He now has over $1 million in live tournaments earnings.
Jonas Wexler entered the final day of the event as second in chips, trailing behind the chip leader – Dennis Brand. Wexler scored his first knockout of the day by winning a three-way all-in with his Ah Ks against pocket Jacks of Aaron Gunn and Pocket Kings of Amy Patel. The eventual winner hit an ace on the flop and held from there to send Gunn to the rail in ninth place ($29,807).
After Noah Shefrin’s elimination, Wexler picked up Qs Qd, which beat 9c 8s of Dennis Brand to send the start-of-day chip leader to the rail in seventh place ($47,444). Wexler kept his momentum going by eliminating Andrew McIlvain in sixth place ($60,866) and Amy Patel in fifth place ($78,997).
Phil Hernz won a massive pot from Steven Grybas, who shoved with pocket sixes and Hernz called with pocket nines. His hand held up and Grybas was busted in fourth place ($103,749).
Wexler then called Spencer Champlin’s all-in with his Kh Kd. Champlin had moved all-in with Ad Jc. The kings held up and Champlin got eliminated, earning $137,936 for his third-place finish.
Despite scoring 5 eliminations, Wexler entered heads-up with a 2-to-1 chip deficit. However, he managed to get a big double-up with his packet jacks and from there he went on to extend his lead.
On the final hand, Hernz moved all-in with As 2c and Wexler called with 6s 6d. The board ran out 7h 6c 5c Qs Kh where Hernz lost and hit the rail in second place for $185,628, leaving the lion’s share of the prize pool to Wexler. Both Hernz and Wexler were battling for their second ring at the series.
