Chris Lane had a crazy run in the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event to claim the title. The player outlasted 582 entries to be crowned the last Main Event champion of the 2018/2019 WSOPC season. He collected $185,158 for the win and his first-ever gold ring from the series. This major victory was his best live cash and it took his total live tournament earnings to $308,250.
The total field of 582 entries generated a whopping $881,730 prizepool, which was shared by top 63 players with a min-cash of $2,883. Lane had a shaky start to the event but he managed to improve his position in the second half of Day 1 and then there was no looking back for the player.
Lane has been a regular at Circuit events over the past six years. The player is a graphic designer and plays poker only for fun. He is living at a driving distance from three different Circuit stops, which makes it easier for him to play a lot in the series. Indeed, this victory was morale boosting for him.
Lane bagged a decent stack at the end of Day 1 of the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event. And throughout the 3 days of action, he stayed among the big stacks, which really gave him some confidence to eventually clinch the title and a WSOP Circuit ring from the series.
The final day of the last Main Event of the season at the host casino Harrah’s Cherokee saw Dustin Stewart start play as the chip leader among the final 8 players. Lane was in the middle of pack at the beginning of Day 3 action. However, he stayed patient slowly stacking up. It took only one level of play for the start-of-the-day field of 8 finalists to whittle down to just the final four players.
Down to 4 players, Lane gained momentum. He went on to score 3 eliminations. He first busted John Cressend in fourth place. Jon Guidry became his next victim. Finally, it was between Lane and the start-of-the-day chip leader Dustin Stewart who couldn’t go all the way and finished 2nd.
Stewart was battling for his second WSOPC title and gold ring, while Lane was eyeing his first title and gold ring from the series. The heads-up began with both being nearly even in chips. While it could have been a long dual, Lane sealed his victory within an hour. The final hand saw Lane with Qc 3s and Stewart with 9h 2c. The board ran out 8s 2s Jh 3c Ac where Lane won the coveted title.
