Day 5 of the second-largest WSOP Main Event began with 354 runners already guaranteed a minimum $34,845 payout. There were 3 Indians in the mix, namely Kartik Ved (2,243,000), Yudhishter Jaswal (1,333,000) and Akshay Nasa (670,000). Following over 15 hours of play, the day finally ended with only 106 surviving and leading them all was the WSOP first-timer Timothy Su who bagged a massive stack of 19,235,000 for Day 6 play. Towards the close of the day, Su busted 3-time bracelet winner Brian Yoon whose top pair of kings ran into Su’s bullets. From India, only Kartik Ved (5,085,000) could survive and will be returning today for Day 6 to chase the dream bracelet.
Among the three Indians on Day 5, Akshay Nasa, who had started the day as the shortest stack, was first to exit the event, and he finished 307th for $38,240, his best score at this year’s WSOP so far. The next Indian to fall was London-based Yudhishter Jaswal who went out in 261st place for $43,935.
For Nasa, it was his third cash at the series as the player had already cashed in the Tag Team Event (28th for $ 1,985) and the Crazy Eights (1064th for $ 1,622). As for Jaswal, he has already scored five cashes at the at the 2019 WSOP and this 261st place was his 6th and biggest cash at the series.
On Day 4 of the main event, a total of 10 Indians had returned among the 1,286 survivors and 7 of them exited on Day 4 itself, namely Goonjan Mall (1,115th for $15,000), Jaideep Sajwan (1,055th for $15,970), Romit Advani (1,005th for $15,970), Siddharth Karia (944th for $17,135), Aditya Kasaraneni (864th for $18,535), Aditya Agarwal (844th for $18,535) and Ankit Ahuja (822nd for $18,535).
Heading into Day 6, Ved is 43rd in chips and he will be looking to stack up to go super deep and catch a life-changing prize in the prestigious event. It was a great day for Ved. He had began the day in style by scoring the first elimination of the day in Tom Cannuli (354th for $34,845) who jammed his Q-J and was called by Ved with pocket nines, which held up to win a big pot. The biggest pot for Ved, however, came when he won nearly 2 millions chips with his Ac Kc against 9c 9d of Joshua Gordon.
During the final hour, Ved won a big pot from Carlos Garcia who held Ad Qd against Ved’s As Ac. The board ran out 9c 4h 9h Qc 6h where Ved took down the massive pot to reach 4,700,000 in chips. Finally, he ended the day, bagging a stack of 5,085,000 into Day 6, which begins at noon Thursday.
As mentioned above, there are only 106 runners remaining to battle it out for the title. While each of them is guaranteed at least $59,295 payout, they will be eyeing the top prize of $10,000,000 and the coveted gold bracelet. Timothy Su (19,235,000) is the chip leader and trailing him are the likes of Sam Greenwood (11,950,000), Duey Duong (11,765,000) and Warwick Mirzikinian (11,430,000).
Among some notables who survived the day were poker titans – Greenwood and Antonio Esfandiari (6,630,000), Romain Lewis (10,600,000), Andy Hwang (8,660,000) and Chris Hunichen (6,280,000).
