An avid poker player and PokerBaazi CEO Navkiran Singh has gotten his 2020 off to a strong start! One of the renowned poker operators in the country, Singh topped a strong field of 125 entries to win the 100K High Roller at the Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) being played at the Pride 2 Casino in Goa. Singh finally defeated Rohit Mishra in HU to win INR 31.82 Lac, which is his best live score till date.
Singh has been competing at the domestic as well as international felts, especially over the last two years and he has done really well by notching up several notable live scores. He has already bagged several WSOP scores and a live title on his resume. Last night, he added the second title to his name by winning the BPT 100K High Roller at the Pride 2 Casino. His first live title had come in Las Vegas where he won the $400 PLO Bounty event at the DeepStack Championship Poker Series in July 2019.
A total 33 players had returned for Day 2 of the event yesterday with Ashish Ajuhja, who had won the 10K kickoff event of the ongoing series for INR 6.18 Lac, leading them with 601,000 chips. Singh had started the day with the 5th largest stack but he was able to chip up and extend his stack to finally enter the FT with the second largest stack of 1,672,000 chips, behind Rohit Mishra (2,136,000).
Going into the final table, Singh had to face a tough competition as the table was star-studded with the likes of Raghav Bansal, Santosh Suvarna, Abhishek Goindi, Romit Advani, Shashank Jain and Ankit Wadhawan. Although he was very much behind Rohit Mishra at the start of the final table, he held his nerves and went on to build his stack and eventually outlast everyone from the table. He scored his first elimination by busting out the Poker Boot Camp Coach Abhishek Goindi whose A10 cracked by Navkiran Singh’s pocket deuces and Goindi was eventually eliminated in the 7th place.
Singh scored his second elimination during the 3-handed play when he sent Shashank Jain (3rd place) to the rail to finally enter heads-up with Rohit Mishra. Singh opened with pocket sixes and Jain holding A3 moved all-in. Pocket sixes of Singh held up on a 9-4-10-10-K board and Jain got busted.
The heads-up between Mishra and Singh began with the former holding 4.295 Million as against Singh’s 3.205 Million. However, it did not take long for Singh to bridge the gap and gain control to eventually win his first domestic live title. The last hand of the event saw Mishra holding pocket sixes and Singh having A-10. The board 4-K-J-Q-7 gave Singh a Broadway straight to win the coveted title.
As expected the high roller tournament drew some of the top pros and players from across the country. The field generated a whopping INR 1.18 Crore prize pool and the top 15 finishers were paid out with a min-cash of INR 2.11 Lac prizemoney. Krishna Kumar exited the event as a bubble boy but took home INR 75K as the bubble was insured. Ashish Munot (11th for INR 2.31 Lac), Gokul Krishna (12th for INR 2.31 Lac), Ashish Ahuja (13th for INR 2.11 Lac), Anish Patra (14th for INR 2.11 Lac) and Anmol Srivats (15th for INR 2.11 Lac) were the other players who made ITM finishes.
