888poker LIVE’s first trip to Madrid ended this week with Italy’s Marco Biavaschi winning the €800,000 GTD Main Event for a career-best score of €150,000. In addition to the top prize, he earned a package to compete in the 2020 WSOP Main Event. The Main Event held at the Casino Gran Via Madrid saw 1,067 entries with hopes of picking up a six-figure score. After two days of intense battles, the final day of the tournament turned into a long one. After a 15-hour grind, Biavashi, who won his Main Event entry via a €100 satellite, overcame his short stack to eventually win the title.
On his way to the main event victory, Biavaschi outlasted some tough pros including Fernando Pons, Claudio Di Giacomo, Ignacio Lopez De Maturana, Marco D’Amico, and David Gonzalez Delgado. Eventually, he entered heads-up with Aubakirov who began the dual as a chip leader. Biavashi, however, closed the gap and won a few big hands in a row to take the lead and finally clinch the title.
On the final hand of the tournament, Aubakirov pitted his Kc 2h against Qc 10d of Biavaschi. The board came down Qh 10c 8c 2d 5d, giving the latter two pairs to win the tournament for €150,000.
