WPT Vietnam is currently underway in Vietnam, one of the most happening places in Asia. The poker festival began on 14th March and will conclude on 24th March. The highlight of the series – VND 25 million Main Event has already wrapped up all its three starting flights and is playing its Day 2.
Across its three starting flights, the Main Event attracted a record turnout of 686 entries, which include 136 from Day 1A, 211 from Day 1B, and an enormous 339 from the final starting flight -Day 1C. With each entry costing VND 25 Million (US$1,070) buy-in, the total field of the event has created a massive VND 15,105,034,000 (INR 4.46 Crores) making it the largest Main Event in Vietnam history.
The Indian contingent at the event has been pretty impressive right from the opening flight. As many as 16 Indian players have made Day 2, with three of them – Yasheel Doddanavar (333,000), Eka Vedantham (323,500) and Sumit Sapra (310,500) being among the top 10 stacks for Day 2 today.
Doddanavar and Vedantham advanced from Day 1A, while Sumit Sapra made his way to the top of the leaderboard on Day 1C, along with four other Indians, including Shashank Jain (232,000), Sahil Mahboobani (148,500), Deepak Raina (45,500) and Dishant Soni who holds 41,000 in chips.
Day 1C Recap
Day 1C of the prestigious Main Event is already in the books. It saw a total of 339 entries (263 unique and 76 re-entries) and took the overall field to a record 686 entries, which generated a jaw-dropping VND 15,105,034,000 in the final prizepool. Top 86 players are assured a min-cash of at least VND 37,160,000 (INR 1,09,843), while the champion will take home VND 2,777,360,000 (INR 82,09,758).
India’s Sumit Sapra ended Day 1C headlining 85 survivors with 310,500 chips. The second in chip counts was Vincent Chauve with 263k chips. Shashank Jain ended as the second highest chip stack among Indians with 232k chips. Sahil Mahboobani fared well and bagged 148.5k chips. Other Indians to advance through Day 1C included Deepak Raina (45.5k) and Dishant Soni (41k chips).

The Day 1A of the main event drew a total of 136 entries (19 re-entries) and it ended with India’s Yasheel Doddanavar (333,000) and Eka Vedantham (323,500) making their way to the 2 top stacks. India’s Neel Joshi was also in the mix and he ended the day among the top 10 stacks with 132,000 chips. A total of 37 players made it to Day 2 from Day 1A with Vedantham leading them all.
Day 1B
The Day 1B saw quite a few Indians in contention. A total field of 211 entries registered to this flight, with Vietnam’s Thai Ha ending the day as the chip leader among 48 survivors. India’s Ashish Munot ended leading 4 Indians with a stack of 248,000. The other Indian players who ended the day with respectable stacks included Rubin Labroo (199,000), Vinay B (156,500) and Raman Gujral (72,500).
