While the 51st running of the world’s richest live poker festival, the WSOP 2020, continues to be on hold due to the COVID-19, the WSOP has announced a multi-platform WSOP Online Series promising 85 bracelets over two months and thus allowing players to chase WSOP glory from their homes.
The WSOP Online Series was announced on Monday, June 8. The announcement comes just weeks after the record-breaking WSOP Super Circuit Online Series that WSOP hosted in partnership with GGPoker. The new series begins on July 1 and will continue until September 6. There are a total of 85 bracelets events, with 31 events are set to be won on WSOP.com during the month of July and they are open only for players living within the borders of Nevada or New Jersey in the United States.
The remaining 54 bracelets will be given away in the international version of the series kicking off on GGPoker from July 19. Players from India will also be able to participate and chase WSOP glory.
The international version of the series will run all the way until September 6 on GGPoker. The schedule will be rolled out by GGPoker over phases. Reacting to its continued partnership with WSOP, GGPoker’s Steve Preiss said, “With over $100M in guarantees during the WSOPC Super Series in May and more than $134M in awarded prizes, it’s clear that GGPoker and the WSOP make a good pair.”
This is the first time that players outside the US will be able to compete for a WSOP bracelet online. The WSOP awarded its first gold bracelet in an online event in 2015. A total of 18 online bracelets have been awarded since then, with the nine of them won at the 2019 WSOP. That number is set to be blown away with the first-ever World Series Of Poker Online promising a total of 85 bracelets.
“It wouldn’t be summer without WSOP,” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the WSOP. “While we are thrilled to be reopening our venues and optimistic about future offline events, we couldn’t be more excited about deepening our relationship with GGPoker and watching some history unfold online this summer.”
“There’s nothing in the world like winning a WSOP bracelet,” said Daniel Negreanu, who joined GGPoker as an ambassador earlier this year. “Bringing this experience online will open the door for a new generation of poker players to feel the rush of competing for the game’s biggest prize.”
The 31 events will be running on WSOP.com throughout July, with one bracelet event every day of the month. The headliner will be the $1,000 NLHE Championship starting on July 31. All 31 events will be either no-limit hold’em or pot-limit Omaha, with buy-ins ranging from $400 upto $3,200.
The series also features a $100,000 Online Bracelet Series Leaderboard where players can win additional prizes, in addition to the normal prizemoney they will be competing for at the series. That not all, WSOP’s official production partner, Poker Central, will be bringing coverage for the events, including live-stream of events, highlights, virtual bracelet ceremonies, interviews and much more!
